WHAT SKIPPING IT COSTS

What a Las Vegas Summer Does to an AC Nobody Serviced

Your AC is cooling right now, so paying for AC maintenance in Las Vegas feels like buying a problem you don't have. Here's the thing. Summer 2026 was the second hottest on record at Harry Reid Airport, with 23 days at 110°F or higher and six straight July nights that never dropped below 90°F.

What happens if I never service my AC? That kind of run time packs dust into the outdoor coil, pushes capacitors below their rating and pits the contacts. A clogged filter alone can add 5% to 15% to what the system uses, according to the Department of Energy. None of it stops the cooling today. It waits for the first hot week of next June, when every tech in the valley is busy. A tune-up runs about $99 before incentives in this market, while a compressor that dies from neglect typically runs $1,400 to $4,400. Which bill do you want?

What Is Included in an AC Tune-Up in Las Vegas? Our Process, Step by Step

Too often, a "tune-up" means a tech glancing at your unit and handing you a quote. Usually we start outside at the condenser, but sometimes it varies, because a rooftop package unit or an attic air handler changes the order. In most cases the whole visit takes one to two hours. What a tune-up does not include: refrigerant added to a leaking system, a deep evaporator coil cleaning, or parts. Those get priced separately, before any work starts.

01

Condenser coil cleaned

Desert dust blankets the outdoor coil until the unit can't dump heat, so we wash it first.

02

Capacitor measured

Read against the rating printed on the part, not judged by eye, because a low reading typically means failure is close.

03

Contactor checked for surge damage

Monsoon power surges pit the contact points, which drops voltage and builds heat until the compressor won't start.

04

Amp draw under load

The compressor, condenser fan motor and blower motor are tested while running, since rising amp draw is usually the first warning of a failing motor.

05

Refrigerant charge measured

Checked by superheat or subcooling by an EPA certified technician, because low charge means a leak.

06

Temperature split and drain

We compare return air to supply air, which proves the system is cooling and not just running. Then we clear the drain line and test the float switch. A clogged drain is the usual reason for an AC leaking water in Las Vegas.

What does a post-summer AC inspection include? All six steps above, with the closest look at the coil, the capacitor and the contactor, the parts a Las Vegas summer wears hardest. You get every reading in writing, with the date. If we find a weak part, you get the price before work starts.

AC AND HEATING ONLY

We're Las Vegas AC and Heating Specialists, Not a Do-Everything Company

Plumbing, solar, drains, electrical. The big multi-trade outfits juggle all of it, and we don't. We've done AC and heating in Las Vegas, and nothing else, since 2019. For an AC maintenance company in Las Vegas, that focus is the whole point. Every visit is handled by licensed and insured technicians. We pick up the phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and we get a licensed technician to you the same day. You get the price before work starts and no contracts, ever. Got a question first? Call (123) 456-789 and ask.

THIS VALLEY IS DIFFERENT

The Las Vegas Problem: Why Skipped Maintenance Gets Expensive in Summer

Heat. AC efficiency ratings are tested at 95°F, yet this valley hit an all-time record of 120°F on July 7, 2024, and August 2026 was the warmest August on record.

Dust and monsoon. Clark County issued dust advisories in both March and August 2026. Monsoon season adds dust storms and power surges that pit contactors and stress control boards. Check your filter after any dust advisory.

Hard water. Las Vegas Valley Water District water runs about 16 grains per gallon, which is very hard. Rinse a coil with the garden hose all summer and scale can build on the fins.

Where you live. Heat mapping in 2022 found downtown, East Las Vegas and North Las Vegas running up to 11°F hotter than other parts of the valley, and many homes here have rooftop package units or attic air handlers that bake all afternoon.

What waiting costs. A dirty coil and a weak capacitor don't fail politely in October. They fail in July. From January 1, 2027, NV Energy is also scheduled to add a daily demand charge based on your highest 15-minute stretch of use, and a struggling AC is the last thing you want on that meter. One more thing, said with care: about a third of Clark County heat deaths happen or begin at home.

A planned swap instead of a July breakdown

A capacitor that tests weak during a tune-up is a planned swap, typically $175 to $400 in Las Vegas. In July the same part means an AC not turning on, a hot house and a long wait.

Compressor life you don't lose

A coil packed with dust keeps pressure high for months. Compressor replacement typically runs $1,400 to $4,400 here, and it ends most systems early.

A leak found before the coil freezes

A system low on refrigerant has a leak, not an appetite, and finding it on a calm visit beats finding it in a heat wave.

Run hours you're not paying for

With a clean coil and a correct charge, the system reaches the set temperature and shuts off, while a neglected one keeps running on your NV Energy bill.

FOUR WAYS TO BOOK IT

Which Air Conditioning Tune-Up in Las Vegas Do You Need?

Pre-summer tune-up

February through May, your window to find a weak part while the valley is calm. Should I service my AC before summer? Yes, and a spring AC tune up in Las Vegas means you pick the day.

Post-summer AC check

AC maintenance after summer is the visit most people skip. "Should I get my AC checked after summer in Las Vegas?" Yes. In September and October, after months of near constant running, the wear on the coil, capacitor and contactor is fresh and easy to find.

Rental turnover check

Between tenants or guests. The goal is a dated report: we test the system, write down every reading and change nothing without the owner's approval.

One-time visit or a repeat schedule

Want an AC maintenance plan in Las Vegas? Here there is no plan to sign and no contract. Book one tune-up and be done, or have us back every spring and fall. The schedule is just a reminder you can drop any time.

Our pet peeve? The tune-up that is really a sales call, where a tech skips the readings and then pitches a new system. Does a newer system still need AC maintenance in Las Vegas? Yes. Dust doesn't check the install date. Have a heat pump? It works winter and summer, so it earns both a spring and a fall visit.

Landlords, Property Managers and Airbnb Hosts: Get the AC Checked Before June

A July breakdown isn't an inconvenience. Under NRS 118A.380, a Nevada landlord has 48 hours after written notice, excluding weekends and legal holidays, to restore essential services such as air conditioning, or make a best effort to. For a short-term rental it means a refund and an angry guest on the same day.

Pre-season sweep of every unit

• One sweep across your doors in April or May
• A written report for each property
• Readings you can forward to the owner

A budget you can forecast

• One planned visit per unit, per year
• Typically cheaper than one summer breakdown
• No contract, so add or drop units any time

A paper trail that holds up

• Dated records of every visit
• Proof a manufacturer may ask for on a warranty claim
• Your record if a tenant disputes how fast you acted

Got Questions? AC Maintenance Las Vegas FAQs

What is AC maintenance?

AC maintenance in Las Vegas is a planned visit that catches wear before it becomes a breakdown. We handle the coil cleaning, test the capacitor, contactor and motors, measure the refrigerant charge, and look over the air filter, thermostat and visible ductwork. Every reading goes in writing.

My AC cools but runs nonstop. Tune-up or repair?

Usually a tune-up. Long run times typically trace to a dusty condenser coil, a weak capacitor or low refrigerant, and we measure all three. If the house never reaches the set temperature, see AC not cooling in Las Vegas or AC blowing warm air.

How often should AC be serviced in Las Vegas?

At least once a year. ENERGY STAR recommends a yearly check before the cooling season, and in most Las Vegas homes twice makes sense: spring before the heat and fall after it, because systems here run far longer than in mild climates. Heat pumps earn both visits, since they also heat in winter.

When should I tune up my AC in Las Vegas?

February through May, because the average first 110°F day lands around June 30. Missed spring? September and October are the next best window.

How much is an AC tune up in Las Vegas?

About $99 before incentives is a typical 2026 market price. NV Energy also runs a tune-up incentive for eligible systems through its approved contractors. Ask us on the call whether it applies to your visit. The estimate is free.

How long does an AC tune-up take?

Usually an hour or two, although a rooftop package unit, a very dirty coil or two systems in one home can stretch it.

Is a very cheap AC tune-up special a catch?

Often, yes. A very low price is usually a way in the door, and the visit turns into a sales call. Ask what is included. On our visit the coil gets washed, the readings get written down and the refrigerant charge gets measured. You see the price for anything else before it happens.

How do I maintain an AC unit between visits?

Typically you change the air filter every month or two in summer, keep shrubs off the outdoor unit and leave the supply vents open. Measuring refrigerant charge, capacitor values or amp draw takes a licensed technician, so call us for that.

How do you clean AC coils?

With the power off at the breaker, you can clear leaves and give the outdoor condenser coil an occasional light rinse, low pressure only. Leave the rest to us. We open the cabinet, wash the coil from the inside out and clean the indoor evaporator coil, which most homeowners can't reach safely.

Does skipping AC maintenance void my warranty?

It can. Some manufacturer warranties say failure to maintain the equipment voids coverage, and many ask for proof of maintenance when you file a claim. The wording differs by brand, so check your paperwork. Our dated written readings are that proof.

How long do AC units last in Las Vegas?

Typically about 10 to 15 years, against 15 to 20 in milder climates, because systems here run so many more hours. Regular tune-ups usually help a unit reach the high end. If yours is near that age, see AC installation in Las Vegas.

Does an AC tune up lower my power bill?

Usually. ENERGY STAR says dirty coils make a system run longer and cost more, and that airflow problems can cut efficiency by up to 15 percent. A clean coil and a correct charge let the system reach the set temperature and shut off. With NV Energy's daily demand charge scheduled for January 1, 2027, a struggling AC will cost you twice.

My rental tenant says the AC is struggling. What do I do first?

Have them check the filter, the thermostat mode and whether the outdoor unit runs. If it cools weakly, book a tune-up and get a dated report. With no cooling at all, go to emergency AC repair.
